When De Bortoli winemaker
Steve Webber set his mind to making
an ultra sauvage premium sparkling
from the Yarra Valley, he was inspired
by the French garagistes: winemakers
who made amazing wines without
the pomp and ceremony of the large
champagne houses. Steve wanted the
brand, made in tiny 500 case lots, to
“look as though it had been made in
a corrugated iron shed”. We took
him at his word. Steve loved it:
so did the judges at D&AD.
