It’s amazing how in the late 1980s
there was a huge rush of very old
brands who decided they wanted to
be modern. In the case of Saltram,
unfortunately the baby was thrown
out with the bathwater. Saltram’s
No.1 Shiraz has had consecutive
vintages since 1862 – this makes
it one of Australia’s oldest wines –
yet a radical redesign had stripped
the brand of its heritage and left it
rudderless. By delving into company
archives we discovered the original
crest and capsule colour. These,
along with crafted typography,
helped restore Saltram to its rightful
position as the heritage brand of
the Barossa.
